Description
Title of invention: Vehicle steering wheel
The present invention relates generally to a vehicle steering wheel mounted on a motor vehicle, and in particular a vehicle steering wheel which comprises an insert which is visible to a user, and which must be positioned harmoniously with respect to other components of the steering wheel. In particular, the insert may be a safety module (also called an airbag module) on board a basic part of the steering wheel (the frame for example) and must be centered relative to the other appearance parts of the steering wheel.
Indeed, due to manufacturing tolerances, it may be necessary to adjust the position of the insert when mounting the steering wheel. It is known in the prior art to use eccentric adjustment means. However, this adjustment is a delicate operation which increases the manufacturing time.
Document US2014217711 describes a steering wheel fitted with an airbag module mounted on the fixing plate. It is planned to be able to adjust the position of the fixing plate in a plane substantially perpendicular to the axis of the steering wheel. However, this does not ensure optimal positioning of the airbag module in the steering wheel.
An object of the present invention is to respond to the drawbacks of the prior art document mentioned above and in particular, to provide a vehicle steering wheel provided with an attached part, the mounting of which guarantees optimal positioning of that -this on the steering wheel without the need to make any additional adjustments.
For this, a first aspect of the invention relates to a vehicle steering wheel, designed to be mounted (and therefore also pivot) along an axis of rotation, for example of a steering column (or defined by a steering column ), comprising at least one insert, such as a safety module, arranged to move (for example in translation) along the axis of rotation, a fixing piece mounted on the steering wheel and arranged to move in translation along the axis of rotation, the insert and the fastener being arranged so that a displacement in translation of the insert along the axis of rotation causes a displacement in the same direction of the fastener, characterized in that:
- The steering wheel further comprises means for centering the insert, fixed relative to the steering wheel and in contact with the insert to center the insert relative to the steering wheel.
The presence of the centering means on the steering wheel ensures the correct positioning of the insert on the steering wheel without the need for further adjustment. Indeed, the insert is directly centered on the steering wheel thanks to the centering means while the fixing part only has the function of binding the insert on the steering wheel in the direction of the axis of rotation. Thus, the assembly clearances between the fixing part and the insert as well as the various associated manufacturing tolerances are no longer to be taken into account with regard to the positioning of the insert relative to the steering wheel, in particular according to directions substantially perpendicular to the axis of rotation. Furthermore, thanks to the clever arrangement of the present invention, a translational movement of the insert remains possible to ensure a function of the vehicle.
According to another embodiment, the centering means ensure the centering in a direction substantially perpendicular to the axis of rotation.
According to another embodiment, the centering means are integral with the steering wheel and are in contact with an outer surface of the insert.
According to another embodiment, the centering means are integral with the insert and are in contact with a reference surface of the steering wheel.
According to another embodiment, the insert comprises means for moving the fixing part, arranged so that, during the assembly of the insert on the steering wheel, the displacement means force a displacement of the fastener in the centering direction.
The displacement of the fastener makes it possible to compensate for any position differences between the insert and the fastener without compromising the positioning of the insert in the steering wheel.
According to another embodiment the fixing part is held in the rest position by elastic return means.
According to another embodiment, the elastic return means are conical springs.
According to another embodiment, the fixing piece forms a switch of an electric circuit, the movement in translation of the fixing piece triggering the opening or closing of the circuit.
According to another embodiment, the fixing part is an annular plate comprising assembly means on the steering wheel and separate means for fixing the insert.
According to another embodiment, the means for fixing the insert to the fixing part comprise at least two hooks intended to be inserted into corresponding openings in the fixing part.
According to another embodiment, each hook comprising at least one protruding longitudinal rib guiding the hook in the corresponding opening of the fixing piece.
According to another embodiment, the means for centering the insert on the steering wheel comprise at least two retractable lugs.
According to another embodiment, the insert comprises means for guiding the movement of movement in translation.
According to another embodiment, the means for assembling the fixing piece comprise at least two shoulder screws passing through the fixing piece through orifices, clearances being provided between the fixing piece and the screw, the return means being mounted on each screw between the fixing part and the steering wheel. These shouldered screws allow retaining of the fixing part as well as a translation along the axis of rotation.
Other characteristics and advantages of the present invention will appear more clearly on reading the detailed description which follows of an embodiment of the invention given by way of nonlimiting example and illustrated by the appended drawings, wherein :

The vehicle steering wheel according to the invention will now be described with reference to Figures 1 to 4. The vehicle steering wheel 2 is mounted along an axis of rotation 3. It comprises a frame 22 and a foam 23 covering certain areas of the frame 22. In a manner known per se, the steering wheel is, for example, mounted at the end of a steering column (not shown). It includes in its central part; a housing 21 in which can be mounted an insert 1. Typically, the insert 1 is a safety module, otherwise called an airbag module. The insert 1 is mounted in the housing 21 of the steering wheel 2 by means of a fixing part 4.
According to the invention, when the insert 1 is mounted on the steering wheel 2, an action, and in particular a press on the insert, triggers a function on the vehicle, for example the triggering of the horn. The insert must therefore be movable in translation along the axis of rotation 3 of the steering wheel.
Furthermore, a space between the insert 2 and another element of the steering wheel is visible. For example, a clearance between the insert 2 and a foaming zone 23 and / or a clearance between the insert 2 and a decorative part 24 attached to the frame 22 or a foaming zone 23 of the steering wheel. In general, it is necessary to provide for good centering or a harmonious adjustment between the insert 1 and the flywheel, to provide a good perceived quality (typically, the spaces between the components must be regular and homogeneous).
According to one embodiment of the invention, the fixing part 4 is assembled on the steering wheel 2, for example in the bottom of the housing 21, by means of at least three through shoulder screws 42, two of which are visible in Figure 2. The screws 42 are fixed to the frame 22 of the flywheel 2 and the fixing piece 4 is mounted free in translation on the screws 42 along the axis of rotation 3. The movement of the fixing piece 4 is limited by the screw heads 42. The translational movement of the fixing piece 4 is obtained by interposing elastic return means 43 between the bottom of the housing 21 of the steering wheel 2 and the fixing piece 4. Thus, in position at rest, the fixing piece 4 is held against the screw heads 42 by the elastic return means 43. When the fixing piece 4 deviates from its rest position, the elastic return means 43 tend to push the piece back fixing in its rest position.
A clearance 44 is provided between the screws 42 is the fastener 4 to also allow movement of the fastener along a plane substantially perpendicular to the axis of rotation 3 of the flywheel 2.
According to an alternative embodiment, the elastic return means 43 comprise conical springs mounted on the screws 42. The advantage of the conical spring is that it can twist along its axis and therefore facilitate the movement of the fixing part in the plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation 3 of the flywheel 2 and the axis of the springs. Other types of springs can be used as wave springs. The wavy springs make it possible to reduce the contact surfaces with the fixing part 4 or the steering wheel which makes the movement of the fixing part 4, during the mounting of the added part 1, easier.
The insert 1 comprises fixing means 10 on the fixing part 4 so that there is no longer any relative movement between the two parts after the final assembly. According to the variant shown, the fixing means comprise at least two hooks 10 which are inserted into two openings 40 made in the fixing piece 4. When mounting the insert 1 on the fixing piece 4, the hooks 10 engage in the openings 40, then move an elastic ring 12. At the end of the hook 40 travel, the elastic ring 12 is inserted between the hooks 10 and the fixing piece 4 which locks the insert 1 on the fastener 4 as shown in figure 1.
Each hook 10 may include at least one longitudinal rib (not shown) which can act as a centering element, in order to guide the movement of the fastener 4 by coming into contact with the openings 40. Thus, the hooks 10 form displacement means comprising contact surfaces arranged on the insert 1 and arranged to come into contact with the fixing part 4 so as to move it.
Thus, after mounting, pressing on the insert 1 along the axis of rotation 3 causes the translational movement of the fastener 4 by compression of the elastic return means 43. When the support is stopped, the elastic return means 43 replace the fixing part 4 and therefore the insert 1 in their rest positions.
According to an alternative embodiment, the fixing part 4 forms a switch of an electric circuit, for example, the tripping circuit of the horn. The displacement of the fastener 4 out of its rest position causes the circuit to be activated either by closing it or by opening it. Activation by opening the circuit is particularly advantageous since activation takes place after a smaller displacement of the insert 1, less than 0.5 mm. Thus, the friction forces of the centering means 5 on the insert 1 only generate a small increase in the activation force of the switch.
According to the alternative embodiment shown in Figure 3, the fastener 4 is an annular plate. The plate 4 includes the openings 40 for the passage of the hooks 10 and the perforations 41 for the passage of the screws 42 for fixing the plate 4 on the steering wheel.
According to the invention, the steering wheel 2 also includes means 5 for centering the insert 1 in the steering wheel. The centering means 5 ensures contact between the flywheel 2 and the insert ensuring optimal positioning of the insert 1.
In particular, the centering means 5 ensure the positioning of the insert 1 in a plane substantially perpendicular to the axis of rotation 3. In other words, the direction of centering of the centering means is substantially per6 pendulum to the axis of rotation 3.
According to an alternative embodiment, the centering means 5 are arranged to be able to apply to the insert 1, a force in the direction substantially perpendicular to the axis of rotation 3 greater than the force required to move the part fixing 4 in the same direction. The force to be applied is for example between 30 and 60N.
For example, the centering means 5 are positioned on the flywheel 2 in the upper part in the housing 21 of the flywheel 2. Thus, during assembly of the insert 1 on the flywheel 2, the means of centering 5 come into contact with the insert 1 before the insert locks on the fastener 4. Thus, the positioning of the insert is carried out before the attachment thereof in the flywheel 2 via of the fixing part 4.
As shown by way of example in FIG. 4a, the centering means 5 comprise a plurality of retractable lugs 50. The lugs 50 are positioned substantially on either side of the insert 1 to exert opposing centering forces on the insert 2.
According to another alternative embodiment, the centering means 5 are formed by flexible tongues (fig 4b.51) or by flexible bosses (fig. 4c, 52).
To better understand the invention, the assembly procedure for the insert 1 is described below, with reference to Figures 5a to 5d. The first operation consists in fixing the fixing plate 4 in the bottom of the housing 21 of the steering wheel. For this, the screws 42 are positioned on the plate 4 previously equipped with the elastic ring 12. The return springs 43 are placed under the plate 4 so that the latter is sandwiched between the screw heads 42 and the springs reminder 43. The assembly thus formed is fixed in the bottom of the housing 21 of the steering wheel 2 by means of the screws 42.
The insert 1 is then introduced into the housing 21. The centering means 5 come into contact with the outer wall of the insert 1 to ensure optimal positioning of the insert 1 on the steering wheel in a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation 3. The insert 1 is then pushed towards the fixing part 4. The hooks 10 engage in the openings 40 of the fixing plate 4 (fig. 5a). The ribs of the hooks 10 can force the displacement D of the fixing plate 4 in a plane substantially perpendicular to the axis of rotation 3 in order to maintain the optimal centering position. This movement of the plate 4 is made possible by the clearance 44 between the screws 42 and the fixing plate 4.
Once the plate 4 is in the final position (fig. 5b), that is to say insert 1 centered on the steering wheel and the fixing plate 4 pushed back by the hooks 10, the final deformation d of elastic band 12 can intervene (fig. 5c). This final deformation d is that which allows the elastic rod to pass the point of inflection of the hook 4 (fig. 5d) so as to lock the insert 1 on the plate 4. This final deformation requires maximum effort on the part of the operator. It is therefore advantageous for this final deformation to occur only after the displacement of the plate 4 so that the forces do not add up.
Thus, throughout the assembly operation, the centering means ensure the positioning of the insert 1 in a plane substantially perpendicular to the axis of rotation 3 of the steering wheel. In addition, the efforts required to assemble the insert 1 are under control since the effort to ensure the final locking takes place only after the fixing plate 4 has returned to its rest position.
To facilitate the introduction of the insert 1 into the steering wheel, guide means can be provided on the steering wheel. These guide means comprising for example a groove formed on the flywheel in which engages a rib located on the insert 4. These guide means provide translation guidance along the axis of rotation 3 of the flywheel but leave freedom movement to the insert in the plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation 3.
It will be understood that various modifications and / or improvements obvious to those skilled in the art can be made to the various embodiments of the invention described in the present description without departing from the scope of the invention defined by the appended claims.
